Text: Matthew 6:25
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
One of the most difficult things for man is, staying free from anxiety and worry. Both the young and the old are preoccupied with thoughts about what to eat, what the future holds and the need to meet up with the demands and pressure that life poses. Jesus warned us not to worry about the demands and pressures of this life. The Lord does not want his followers to follow the pattern of this world's system.
If you critically consider how the world system runs, you will realise that its arrangements is such that it concentrates man's energy and life on what to eat, drink, what to wear, and where to live.
Any man who takes thoughts, or who is procccupied by these three legitimate needs will not be able to receive God's ultimate plan for him.
Jesus quoted Moses in Mathew 4:4 that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. This shows us that God wouldn't want you to live for bread alone.Though, your natural life on earth here is sustained by food and drink, but your real life (spiritual life) can only be sustained by every word that proceeds from God's mouth.
If a man only takes care of his natural life on this side of eternity, such a man will eventually die eternally. That is the reason Jesus said to the Pharisees in John 6:49 that their fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
It is clear that even manna from heaven cannot give true life, only God's word does.
Natural Food cannot keep you from death in the long run. It is quite unfortunate that so many have laboured all their lives for the perishables. Jesus therefore warned his followers not to labour for the meat (food) which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give...(John 6:27).
Food and dink only quench hunger and thirst of the body, but man is a tripartite being, hence, food and drink can only take care of one part of his three being- the body. Man is essentially a spirit, he has a soul and lives in the body. That's the reason Jesus came to give us life.
I want to leave you with this questions today:
WHAT ARE YOU LIVING FOR?
WHAT IS THAT THING THAT SATISFIES YOUR APPETITE.
WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION BEHIND ALL YOUR LABOUR TODAY?
