COSTLY DISOBEDIENCE

Text:Numbers 20:8 &11.

"Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals..." Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.

Though disobedience generally results into punishable consequences, but  certain acts of disobedience do result in grievous results.

Moses had endured the Isrealites' murmuring and disobedience on many occasions, but for this particular contention.

At the wilderness of Zin, the Isrealites contended with Moses and Aaron because they had no water. They said to Moses, "If only we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!(Numbers 20:3).

God gave Moses an instruction to take his rod and go speak to the rock before the people. Moses took the rod and used it wrongly for the very first time in history.

It is possible the people had driven Moses to the end of his patience rope, he got angry and struck the rock with his rod. This singular act of his made him not to enter the promise land.

You must be very careful not to allow people push you into costly disobedience. The scripture says in James 1:20 that the wrath of man does not  produce the righteousness of God.

Sometimes when you stay around angry people, the tendency of getting angry yourself is always high. You must be careful not to stay  around angry people for too long lest you learn their ways.(Proverbs 22:24-25).

Moses, the meek man got frustrated and angered by the reason of the murmurings of the  Isrealites, and this pushed him against God's instruction. You must learn not to allow other people's disobedience push you into disobedience yourself.

*Disobedience can be infectious, stay away from folks that flout instructions or commandments.*

Be watchful so you do not fall into error of costly disobedience.
