WASTED VIRGINS

Text: Matthew 25:1.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

You are not a Christian because you go to church,  you are a Christian because God's Spirit is in you, and you are living like Christ. There are many in the church today whose records are not in heaven.

This is why Luk 13:26 says some will knock at the gate of heaven, _then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets._

But he (Jesus) will tell you, ‘I don’t know where you come from. Get away from me, all you who practice evil!’Luke 13:27. That is, some who have taken holy communion on earth, and who have been  church workers or leaders all their lives, will be turned down at the heaven's gate.

These are the people that Jesus described as foolish virgins in our bible reading.

They are regarded as virgins because they have declared their intentions to follow Christ and have deprived themselves of some of the so called pleasures of this world.

So, why are they regarded as foolish, you might ask? Looking at our text again, you will see that  just like the wise virgins,  the foolish too took their lamps and set out to meet the bridegroom.

What made them foolish was that they took their lamps without the taking oil.
_They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:_ Matthew 25:3.

What good is a lamp that has no oil? Lamps are meant to give light, without oil however, the lamp is useless.

Psalms  119:105 says, *Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.* It is the word of God that supplies oil to your lamp and keeps your path illuminated.

It is a wasted service to be known as a Christian and yet not carry the instructions of  God in your heart. Without His words in your heart, you will freely sin against Him.
Psalms 119:11  says, _thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee._

When you are not a carrier of God's words, the bridegroom will not be able to identify with you. To such, the bridegroom will say, depart from me, I never knew you. Matthew 25:12. They are the foolish virgins.
