Text: Genesis 17:5
Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
Every name has its inherent meaning and import. That you are oblivion to the meaning your name carries doesn't mean its import is not robbing on you.
God changed Abram's name to Abraham. Abram means exalted father. Being called an exalted father is not a bad thing, but it didn't quite fit the intention of God for His life, so God changed his name from Abram to Abraham which means Father of many nations.
If names are not important, God wouldn't have to change Abraham's before he can fulfil his destiny.
*Ultimately, your life will go in the direction of the name you answer, hence, the need to choose your name wisely.*
Jacob's name was changed to Israel. From a supplanter to one who prevails with God. Sarai was changed to Sarah, and Simon was changed to Peter, to mention a few.
You must note however that you don't have to change your name physically before you change the import it carries in the spirit realm. But it is primarily important to know the meaning of your name, and why it was given to you.
Jabez is a good case study in this regard. His name means sorrowful or born in pain. He prayed earnestly to God and God heard him without necessarily changing his name.
_And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested._ 1 Chronicles 4:10.
Seek to know the meaning of the names you answer if you don't know it already. And if you are led by God to change it, don't hesitate to do so.
Regardless of the name you answer, (whether good or bad) You can equally go to God like Jabez and redirect the course of your life according to God's will.
It's my prayer that your name shall not be taken out of the book of Life in Jesus name.
