Text: Galatians 5:13.
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
As you journey here on earth in the Lord, it is important for you to always exercise caution so as not to be at either side of the extremes of the mountain. As far as God is concerned, He simply wants you to be at the very centre of the mountain top.
This is to say that you simply seek to see, live and walk as Jesus did while on earth. Jesus Himself said, "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord...." (Matthew 10:24-25).
You cannot walk and behave like Jesus until you've understood how to walk in your liberty. Before I explain how you can walk in the liberty wherein Christ has made you free(Galatians
5:1), let me quickly point out two of the extremes you must avoid as a believer.
A good number of genuine Christians often fall on either side of the extremes. The book of Galatians warned against these two extremes. When you fall into either of the extremes, you are no longer in liberty.
The first extreme is legalism. This is the extreme most Christians who are living under laws of 'dos' and 'donts' have found themselves. They are strong on self-righteousness/righteousness of the law which Apostle Paul described as dung (Philippians 3:6-8) and Prophet Isaiah described it as filthy rags.(Isaiah 64:6).
This was the first extreme of the Galatian church. They began to pursue law having begun in the Spirit. (Galatians 3:1-3). This is the experience of many. They follow certain regulations, hoping to perfect their faith through such. They forget one fact: *You cannot please God by your own righteousness but only by His revealed righteousness.*
*The only acceptable righteousness is that which God is working out in you, not the one you've set by yourself.*
Always remember that you are not saved by your own righteousness, but you were by Jesus' righteousness for His own righteousness.
