Text: Matthew 1:1
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Today, we shall be looking at how the perfect God came down to this earth through the imperfect man.
*God has shared in our humanity that we might also share in His divinity.*
King Solomon was part of Jesus' lineage. Solomon was from Bathsheba (the wife of Uriah). Solomon's mother was not a legitimate wife of King David. The first contact David had with Bathsheba was that of adultery.
But God in His wisdom has decided to use imperfect people in bringing forth His perfect goodwill to all mankind. (Luke 2:14).
King Solomon, though he was a wise king, but his ending wasn't too good. Despite all his errors, the covenant keeping God would still not break covenant with his lineage. The throne and the kingship did not depart from the household of David all the same.
Sometimes, you may feel like rewriting your lineage, some people even change their surnames because they don't want to have anything to do with such names. While some edit their own surnames, some others have taken up another name entirely.
Well, God knows why He has placed you in that family. Just as God's covenant with Abraham remained, despite all his shortcomings and that of his children. So also shall the covenant of God stand with you because of Jesus Christ.
All you need do is to walk in this covenant. *God's covenant with you stands on His integrity and strength; He will never break it, except you do.*
God has brought in Solomon, son of Bathseba (former wife of Uriah) into the genealogy of Jesus, in order to tell us that He's got a place for those who have presumably married wrongly. God has a perfect plan for the children of those who have married wrongly if they would submit them to Him.
It is obvious that Solomon shouldn't in anyway be qualified to be the King after his father (King David).
By the virtue of the situation surrounding the marriage of his mother (Bathsheba) and his own position in the family, he is not qualified, but God is showing Himself ahead in what Jesus would accomplish for us on the cross.
You and I are not also qualified to sit on the throne by the virtue of what our first parents(Adam and Eve) and our immediate parents did, but Jesus qualified us on the cross.(Ephesians 5:1).
When you think of what Jesus did to bring you to God as His adopted Son and daughter, you will forever remain grateful and you will forever remain in the Love of the Father God.
May the Lord help us to always be found in Him without spot and wrinkle in Jesus name.
