DISCIPLINE

Text: 1 Cor. 9:25

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

To be a true disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, you must learn discipline. *There can never be a true discipleship without discipline.*
The Greek word (mathetes) from which disciple is coined also means learner or pupil.

Every learner as you know, had to go through discipline in order to gain the required knowledge or expertise.

In the same way, for you to become like the Master (Jesus Christ), you must also subject yourself to the disciplines of the Spirit. Remember, discipline is not punishment. People don't like the word discipline. In fact, many Christians who have been caught up in the web of 'hyper grace' believe that there is nothing more to do since Jesus has done it all for them on the cross.

While this is very true, another side to this narrative which they often neglect is that; while our sins has been paid for, we also have the responsibility of continuous obedience to commandments.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;(John 8:31).
Two words are key to becoming a disciple in this verse: *believe* and *continue* in my word.

Jesus once said to His disciples, "...If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23).

*Though Jesus has died for our sins, but He has not taken away our cross, you must daily carry your own cross in order to realise the power of resurrection in your own life.*

As a believer, you must know what Jesus has achieved for you on the cross, and how He wants you to to daily walk therein. To accept the provisions of Christ's death on the cross, you need to simply believe, but to experience the power of His resurrection, you must deny yourself and daily die to self by carrying your cross.

Don't be deceived dear believer, being born again is just the beginning into a vast new life in God's kingdom. It's just like giving birth to a baby. The parents are excited, but there is whole lots of growth  the baby had to go through, and each of these growth stages comes with its own requirements.

So many young folks in our society today are objects of pain to their parents and the society at large because, while growing up they were not properly disciplined.

In the same vein, we are having many untrained and indisciplined followers of Christ in the church today, because they are not being discipled.

If God doesn't discipline you as He does to all of His genuine children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his child at all.(Hebrews 12:8).

You must be subjected to the Lord's discipline for you to grow into Sonship.

Hebrews 12:6-11.

PRAYER FOCUS

Father Lord, I receive the grace to daily deny self and carry my cross daily.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

WAY MAKER-2

Text: Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness,  and rivers in the desert. God promised that He will do a new thing for you, and that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. He has done this before, and He will do it again even in your own life.  When the children of Israel left Egypt, the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them, encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.(Exodus 14:9). Just like anyone would react, the Isrealites became so fearful because there is neither way forward nor back for them to escape. Before them was the red sea, behind them were the Egyptian armies. They became perplexed and began to murmur against Moses. It is possible you are also in a situation like the Israelites- No way forward, and no way behind. Things may appear like you are ...

BEWARE OF DOGS

Text :  Philippians 3:2. Beware of the dogs! Beware of the evil workers! Beware of the mutilators! Usually, when you see the inscription "BEWARE OF DOGS", you instantly know there's a wild or trained dog around the corner, hence, the need to beware.  However, when God says 'Beware of dogs,' He wasn't actually referring to dogs as in 'animals' but to animals in human skin. Note that this caution was given to believers against other so-called  believers.  That is, some people within the church that we refer to as brothers and sisters are actually operating in the capacity of dogs.Though fellow worshippers in the church are called brothers and sisters, but if they behave like wild animals, know that they are dogs in humans skin- BEWARE. Matthew  7:6 says *Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.*  Essentially, dogs don't have capacity to r...
