THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS

Topic: The Genealogy of Jesus.

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

God doesn't and cannot make mistake. Looking at the genealogy of Jesus Christ, you will think some names were mentioned in error. Or you would conclude some names don't deserve to be there.

Our all-knowing God allows some characters to be included in the genealogy of Christ so we could learn about His benevolence.

In this series, we shall be looking at some of these characters. Of particular interest are the women that were mentioned in our Lord's genealogy, and we shall be looking into this one after the other.

*TAMAR:* Tamar is the wife of Er, the first son of Judah. The LORD considered Er, Judah’s oldest son, to be wicked—so he put him to death.
Thereafter, Judah instructed Onan (the second son), “You are to have sexual relations with your dead brother’s wife, performing the duty of a brother-in-law with her, and have offspring for your brother.” (Genesis 38:8).

But Onan knew that the offspring wouldn’t be his own heir, so whenever he had sexual relations with his brother’s wife, he would spill his semen on the ground to avoid fathering offspring for his brother.
The LORD considered what Onan was doing to be evil, so he put him to death, too. *Some people will die untimely because of their wicked deeds.  Shun wickedness!*

When Judah realised two of his sons had died, he decided to smartly hide the third son away from Tamar. (Genesis 38:7-10)

Long story short, when Tamar realised she had been played by her father in law, she disguised herself like a prostitute and eventually, Judah slept with her. The result of this supposed incest was what produced Perez and Zerah.

Yet in Matthew 1:3 we read that Judah fathered Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez fathered Hezron, Hezron fathered Aram. That is, Perez who came as a result of a seeming incest found his way into the genealogy of our Lord Jesus.

Regardless of the story surrounding your birth, you are not a mistake, your parents may have no plan for you, but you are in God's plan.

Tamar was a woman of many sorrows, she was a widow two times (two husbands died on her) with no child to show for it.
Later, she was popularly referred to as a righteous prostitute. But God who knows her silent tears and pains chose to honour her eternally.

Today, the same God is saying to you that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalms 30:5b. Don't worry,  He is giving you beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; Isaiah 61:3.
