INFLUENCE

Text: 1 Corinthians  15:33.

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Some years back, while living off campus as an undergraduate,  my next door neighbour had a particular secular music he plays every morning. The lyrics of the song was nothing to write home about but he always put it on  loud speaker nonetheless.

I had gone to him more than once so he could reduce the volume. (because I  had no right to tell him the kind of song he can listen to). I went to him not just because it was obscenely loud, but because I don't want to  have anything to do with such music.

Lo and behold, I  caught myself singing that song one day. I had learnt the song unconsciously, albeit unsolicitedly.

We live in a world where everything around us is competing for the space of God in our lives. Here, you are either being influenced or you are influencing others.

At times,  we get influenced passively just as I was in the story I recounted above. But whether passively or actively, we get influenced one way or the other.

The two gateways whereby we get influenced either positively or negatively are our eyes and ears.

That's why Proverbs 4:23 says Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.

To guard your heart is to guard what you see and hear. You may not have control over somethings you see and hear, but you sure have control over what you choose to meditate on out of all you've seen and heard.

We have a lot of unsolicited negative messages to battle with as it were, don't add to it by intentionally joining yourself with evil people.

Here is God's express instructions to you- Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
What agreement has Christ with Beliar b? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?
What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For we are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” d
*Therefore, “‘Go out from their midst, and be separate,’ says the Lord, ‘and touch no unclean thing,’ and I will receive you.2 Corinthians 6:14-17.

BIBLE READING: 2 Samuel 13:1-22.

PRAYER FOCUS

1. Father,  give me wisdom and grace to break ties with every one wrong person I  have joined myself with.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
