TRUST- 2

Text: Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

God's desire for you is that you trust in Him with ALL your heart and not to be choosy about how and when to trust Him.

King Asa (in our Bible reading text)once trusted in the Lord while being confronted with one million Ethiopian army. He called upon the LORD for deliverance, and he received God's help.

When Asa had few soldiers in his army to confront the Ethiopians, he was left with no other choice than to pray to God. He said:

"...LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee". (2 Chronicles 14:11)

The Lord heard his cry and King Asa defeated the 1million Ethiopian army and their chariots with lesser army. He placed his trust in the Lord and the Lord came through for him.

It was however unfortunate that Asa, having received a great deliverance from the Lord, could not trust Him for another deliverance.

This is because he did not trust in the Lord with 'ALL' his heart.

A person who does not trust in the LORD with all his heart will seek for God's help today, and go after man's help tommorrow. Such person is never stable on God.

When your heart is not fully dependent on God, your trust in Him will be epileptic and circumstantial. Situations will be the determinant of how and when you trust in God.

In the 36th year of King Asa's reign over Judah, he had a lesser confrontation from the king of Israel.

You cannot imagine what Asa did this time around. He simply removed the silver, gold and treasure of the LORD's house and sent them to King Benhadad of Syria. He sent this gift to King Benhadad so that he can give him deliverance from the King of Israel. The Lord was not happy with this move.

Athough God reminded him of the past deliverance given to him from the Ethiopia, yet he refused to change his heart.

God told Asa, "Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand" (2 Chronicles 16:8).

Asa did not trust the Lord with all his heart. Hence, he ran to King of Syria whom the Lord had decided to give him victory over. He missed a life time opportunity.

To trust God with all your heart means that you are trusting Him today, tommorrow and forever; It means that you will trust Him in every circumstances that come your way; It means that you will always turn to the Lord for help; It means that you are not in doubt about God's capacity and power to handle all your challenges, be it great or small.

Trusting in the Lord with all your heart is setting your face like a rock in the face of every situation till your help comes from Him.

For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.Isaiah 50:7
