Text : Matthew 13:20.
*As for what was sown on the stony ground, this is the person who hears the word and accepts it joyfully at once,*
The second heart category is the stony heart. It isn't stony because he refused to hear the word of the kingdom, but because he lacks depth.
One thing that is peculiar to all the four kinds of hearts mentioned by Jesus in the parable of the sower is the fact that they all hear the word.
This is why James said don't just be hearer of the word only deceiving your own self.
*But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.* James 1:22.
For if anyone hears the word but is not obedient to it, he is like a man who looks at himself in a mirror
and studies himself carefully, and then goes off and immediately forgets what he looks like.
But the one who looks at the perfect law of freedom and remains committed to it—thereby demonstrating that he is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of what that law requires will be blessed in what he does. James 1:23-25.
So a stony hearted fellow is a person who hears the word and accepts it joyfully at once, but since he doesn’t have any root in himself, he lasts for only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes along because of the word, he immediately falls away.
*Don't be deceived by the easy-peasy preachers, Jesus didn't promise us trouble-free Christianity. But He promised to be with us always.*
He told us specifically in John 16:33 that while we are in this world, we'll have trouble, but if you remain in Him, you will have peace. So, it's comforting to know that whatever comes our way, we are victorious, because He is with us.
So be rest assured that troubles and persecutions will come because of the seed of God's word that has been sown into you. *Instead of letting the storm shakes you off the way, use it as a stepping stone to move up the faith ladder.*
Don't be a stony hearted Christian. Get rooted and established in the love of the Father where you can confidently say like Paul that NOTHING CAN SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF THE FATHER. Rom. 8:35.
