THE SHEPHERD & THE SHEEP

Text: Matthew 9:36

*But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.*

Just as Jesus rightly said over two thousand years ago, that he saw..... the multitudes like sheep without shepherd, there are still many people wondering about today without any shepherd over their lives.

There are many  hirelings in the church of God today but scanty shepherds. John 10:13.

While _King James version_ used the words " Fainted and scattered"  _New International Version_ used the words, harassed and helpless"

When you critically consider the words that Jesus used to express the state of the sheep, you will realise that that's the state of so many people today.

While it is well understood that the people outside the church are described with these words- harassed and helpless,it is saddening to know that even many in the church are also harassed and helpless.

*Today the church of God is in dire need of Shepherd than any other time in history.* The unfortunate news however is that many of the so called Pastors are hirelings. Hence, when the lion comes against the sheep under their care, they simply desert the fold and run away.

The very core need of a sheep is primarily coming under a true shepherd. Once a sheep is under a shepherd, all other needs become secondary. It is now certain that such a sheep can no longer faint.

It is important for every true believer to know that they are not to search for a shepherd, they simply discover one by  God's divine intervention and orchestration. You don't also choose a shepherd on some wrong criteria like: Fame, giftings, charisma, number of followers in the fold e.t.c. All these are wrong basis for discovering who your shepherd is or should be.

The relationship between sheep and shepherd is a divine one. When you are searching for a church to join, you must ask yourself certain critical questions before you choose or join one.(we shall look at this later). This is  because church is not a physical institution like bank or school that you choose base on visible features.

You need a shepherd that will stay by you in time of your difficulties.

You need a shepherd that will share in your pains and truly empathise with you when the need arises.

You need a shepherd that will visit you at the hospital to counter doctor's report that is contrary to God.

You need a shepherd who will lose his night sleep because of you. *A true shepherd is a night watcher over his sheep. Is your own Pastor keeping vigils in prayer for your sake?*

You need a shepherd who will always take you to the pasture for good feed.

If you would experience Peace and Joy, and receive total freedom from confusion and harassment, you need a shepherd who has submitted himself to the Chief shepherd.

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1. Father, I submit myself under the shepherdic leadership of Jesus Christ. I receive grace to stay under the leadership God has provided for me.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
