DON'T BE DISCOURAGED 2

 Text:  1 Samuel 30:6

*And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.*

We began to look at how David encouraged himself in the LORD yesterday. Today  we shall be looking at how to deal with discouragement.

If David had allowed discouragement, he wouldn't have been able to see his families again. His followers also would have lost their families. *Discouragement is a major weapon that the devil uses to defeat and rob many of God's children.*

_Even when you have God's promises and words hanging over your head, discouragement can make you fall short of their fulfillment._

God, having affirmed to Joshua that he will give him the land of the Canaanite, He kept sounding in his hearing that he should  be courageous and strong. In the book of Joshua chapter one  the Lord told Joshua to be strong and courageous four(4) times (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9 & 18). This is because the Lord knew that there is  possibility for discouragement to set in.

In dealing with this monstrous enemy, you must learn to:

1.Encourage yourself

in the Lord.

It's only in the Lord you will always find courage to press on in life. *Challenges and difficulties are common to all, but the children of God will always have the comforter to help them out of the pit of hopelessness in times of difficulties.*

Whenever you sense any weight or burden that tend to be dragging you into hopelessness and discouragement, just know that your Redeemer lives. He will certainly come through for you.

Job boldly declared during his down times:

*"...I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth"* Job  19:25.

*2. Enquire from the Lord:* To experience total deliverance from the grip of depression and continuous discouragements,  you must seek counsel and direction from the Lord. The simple way to doing this today is by consulting God's word(scripture). You need to search the scripture by yourself to find out how the saints of old confronted your type of challenge. *You will always find answers to your questions in the Bible if you open it with an open,  humble and teachable heart.*

In the case of David  he was so detailed about his enquiry. The Lord answered all his questions and delivered him out of the mess the enemy has put him. 1Samuel 30:6-8.

The same God who delivered David is still on the throne today and forever. He will also attend to you if you call upon Him today.

 *BIBLE READING:* 1 Samuel 30:1-8.

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1. Father,  give me the grace and strength to seek your face for counsel and direction out of my discouraging situations.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
