REASON FOR FORGIVENESS

Text Matthew 18:21-22

*Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times? No, not seven times,” answered Jesus, “but seventy times seven,*

Our Lord Jesus Christ sounded a very important note on the  reason you must give forgiveness from your heart to all your offender. He said in Mathew 18:35, “...That is how my Father in heaven will treat every one of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.” The  question you need to ask is, "how would God treat people who refused to forgive from their hearts?"

Matthew 18:34  gave the answer "And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him."

For anyone who refuses to forgive from his heart, Jesus said that such shall be handed over to the torturers(tormentors) until he is able to pay all he owes.

*Unforgiveness opens  you up to all manner of torments and tortures.*  Though unforgiveness can send anyone to hell, but its consequences actually begins from this side of eternity. The person that is not giving forgiveness, actually receives greater hurt and pain than the  one he is holding in his heart. Simply forgive and let go for your own sake.

Sometimes,  we often overlook certain truths in God's word knowingly or unknowingly. Whichever way, negligence to the truth will always make one suffer grievous consequences.  One major reason Jesus commanded us to forgive seventy times seven is so that we might be far away from tormentors. Tormentors will include anything that destroys your spirit, soul and body.

Why should you allow yourself to be beaten twice? Someone has offended you, and tormentor is tormenting you because you have refused to forgive from your heart.

Let's quickly check this out right away:

Have you been deeply and badly hurt/offended by someone in recent times or in the past?

If your answer is a YES!  Then I want you to check the symptoms of unforgiveness in your life by sincerely looking inward to see if you have a YES for any of the followings:

1. Palpitation at the sight or remembrance of offender.

II. Sad and ill-feelings at the sight or thought of offender.

III. Sudden fear at the sight or remembrance of offender.

IV. Transference.

V.  Feeling of depression at the sight or remembrance of offender.

VI. Expressing intense anger at the sight or remembrance of offender.

VII. Wishing your offender bad luck and evil, or even making a (physical, spiritual) attempt to murder  your offender.

The Lord is willing to help you right away. Are you willing to cooperate with Him?

Just open your heart and your mouth and start giving your forgiveness to your offender.

Keep saying: I forgive so and so person.....

Say it over and over till your heart feels good with that person.

This may take you few minutes or days to get through. It all depends on the depth of the hurt or injury done by your offender. But as a child of God  you surely do have the capacity to forgive (John 20:23, Rom. 5:5).

If you are yet to commit your life to Christ, the first thing you need do is give your life to Christ. If not, you won't have the power to give forgiveness to your offender.

This exercise helps you release your offender from the prison of your heart, so that you too might be released from the prison of torments.
