BAR-JESUS

Text : Acts 13:6 ISV 

 *They went through the whole island as far as Paphos, where they found a Jewish occult practitioner and false prophet named Bar-jesus.* 

We are introduced to a man in our text today named, Bar-Jesus. His name in Hebrews means son of Jesus, but other descriptions of this fellow revealed that he  was an occult practitioner,  and a false prophet  and yet he was called the son of Jesus. He is also known as Elymas the sorcerer. Acts 13:8.

Needless to say that the story is still the same today. We live in a world where occultic people are being referred to as men of God,  where false prophets are parading themselves about in different churches,  on television, radio and all social media as the prophet of God and people are indeed regarding them as so.

Infact,  the most pathetic is when people rightly know that a particular fellow is a false prophet or an  occult practitioner and yet flock to him simply because they want miracles. 

Just few days ago, I was talking with a lady who attests that they knew that their pastor is occultic, yet they still attend the church. 

 *The reason many are allowing themselves to be lured and deceived by the 'Bar-jesus' of our time is because they are mere miracle seekers.*

 When Jesus was giving His disciples signs of end time, the very first one He mentioned borders on this issue of deception.

He said “  *See to it that no one deceives you,* 
 *because many will come in my name and say, ‘I’m the Christ,’ and they will deceive many people.** Matt. 24: 4-5. 

 *Many false prophets will deceive many people by reason of the many miracles they will perform.* 
Matthew  24:24 says  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Miracles are signs that will of certainty follow believers, running after miracles as a believer is setting a trap for yourself.  ```Bar-jesus are everywhere please BEWARE!``` 

Hear Jesus' parting words to you- These are the signs that will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons. they will speak in new languages.
and they will pick up snakes with their hands.Even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and the’ll place their hands on the sick, and they’ll recover.”

1. Lord, I receive the grace and wisdom to recognise the Bar-jesus around me to shun them and their teachings.

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil.
