ATTITUDE 2

Text :Matthew 7:6

*Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.*

Yesterday, we saw that your behaviour is a product of your attitude, while attitude is a product of  your nature. You will notice that there are certain traits in you that you inherited from your parents.

Attitude is described as a state or disposition of the mind. The formation of your mind is not just limited to what you see, hear or read, it is essentially determined by the nature you carry. (Rom 8:5-7). You can't simply get rid of certain attitudes because it has been passed down to you by your lineage. This attitude has now become a stronghold that cannot just be broken by mere decisions.

You need a change of nature. And it is only God that can do this for you. Hence, the first step is being born again.

So many stopped at this first step. This is just the first step, it is not the entire thing you need to do for you to experience the divine nature of God. (2Peter 1:4). You must constantly and continually  cooperate with God in order to come into an experiential (tangible) nature of God which was birth in your spirit at new birth(Born again experience). Romans 10:9-10.

*Unless your Attitude is altered by the divine nature of God, you will be held by strongholds of the carnal mind which is enmity against God.*

See the case of Gehazi for instance. He was a disciple of the great prophet Elisha. At a point, he was sent by Elisha with his staff to go heal the son of a shunnamite woman. Gehazi obeyed all the instructions given by Elisha but nothing happened. You will wonder why. It is simply because of his attitude (2King 4:29-3).

Chapter 5 of 2kings revealed the reason why Gehazi could not get result. His attitude is not in alignment with prophet Elisha. He was a greedy man. If he had raised the son of the Shunammite woman, he would have demanded for something in exchange. Gehazi does not believe that healing should be free. That was why he ran after Namaan to collect gifts rejected by his master. 2King 5:21-23. The mind disposition of Gehazi is that nothing goes for nothing.

Your attitude determines many things in your life. People only see your behaviour which is a product of your attitude. The attitude like a root of a plant or foundation of a building is buried deep down in the ground of your mind. You need God's help to change the formation of attitude you inherited from your lineage(from the fallen nature of Adam).

As you open yourself to the Lord, may He do a new work in you in Jesus name.

Bible Reading: 2Kings 5:20-27.

 *Prayer points*

1. Lord, search my heart and purify my inward man.

2. Father, take away every filthy things in me and make me a vessel of honour.
