THE MESSAGE AND THE MESSENGER

 Text : 1Cor 9:27 ISV

No, I keep on disciplining my body, making it serve me so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified.

You will be doing yourself a great disservice as a child of God if in the bid of saving others you lose your own soul.

Peter was told to strengthen others only after he himself has been converted. Luke 22:32.

You are in a more vantaged position to help others when your own salvation is secured . You can't be in a muddy pit and be offering help to others in the same pit with you. First,  get yourself out of the pit,  then you will be qualified to help others.

Paul said in 1 Cor. 9:27, that there's need to keep disciplining your body. This is a task no one one can do for you except you.
Your body in this context talks about the desires of the flesh. Rom 7:5.

He goes further to say that he makes the body to serve him and not the other way round. A number of times, the body is not serving the believer rather it's the believer that is serving the body. This really ought not to be.

Whenever you agree  to carry out any of the works of the flesh in Gal. 5:19-21, Eph. 4:17-19, you are simply serving your body -your fleshy desires.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans  6:16.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:Colossians  3:5.

The young prophet in 1 Kings 13 delivered the message of God exactly as he was told, but he was misled by the old Prophet because he didn't pay much attention to himself to jealously guard his soul.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs  4:23.

Though he was mightly used by God,  he was cut off at his prime and eating by lion because he didn't take heed.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
1 Corinthians  10:12.

It is glorious to herald God's message to men, but it is more glorious and profiting for the messenger not to lose his crown and reward. After you have ministered unto others,  I pray that you too will not be a cast away.
