THE COMFORTER

Text : John 14:15,16&18

If you love me, you will keep my commands.
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter to be with you for ever.....
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

While Jesus was here, during His earthly ministry,  He was not just a teacher to the apostles. He was their Defender,  Counsellor, Comforter. In fact,  He was everything to them.

Hence,  He knew they wouldn't survive without Him. That was why He told them in verse 16 of John 14 that, the Father will give you ANOTHER COMFORTER. The word "another" depicts that there has been one before.

This was the same thing He told them in Acts chapter one, when He was about to ascend to heaven.  He told them to wait for the promise of the Father.
"And you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost come upon you... Acts 1:4-8

We know that this promise of the Father was fulfilled since the day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2.
However,  just as this promise was not given to everyone who were living in Jerusalem at that time, so also is the, "Promised Comforter" - the Holy Spirit is not for everyone now. The Holy Spirit can only be received by those who have received Jesus Christ.

But it will be abnormal for a Christian to be without the Holy Spirit. Jesus said " I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you "John 14:18. That is,  anyone without Holy Spirit is comfortless,  without help,  without guidance.

One of the things the Comforter will do is that, He will TEACH YOU ALL THINGS. " but the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,  whom the father will send in my name, He shall teach you All things,  and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. " John 14:26.

One major way for a Christian to live above sin is to key in the ministry of the Holy Spirit into his life.  The Comforter will teach you *ll things. He will guide you into all truths.

To be successful in your Christian journey,  you need the help of the Holy Spirit.  Any Christian without Him is without help,  he is without comfort.

Evidently, the father has fulfilled His part of sending the Holy Spirit as He promised.  But the question is,  have you received this promise?

How well are you yielding to His teachings, leadings and instructions?
