WISE HARLOT

Text : Joshua 2:1.

*And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.*

A number of stories from the Old Testament were written so we can learn from them and lead a better life.

2Tim 3:16 says All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Today, we shall be gleaning some lessons from the life of Rahab, the harlot.

First, let's look into what the characters in our text stand for.

The Harlot Rahab, typified the fallen man. Jericho typified this present world, the two Spies typified God's message and His messangers, and Joshua typified God.

It was on record that everyone in Jericho had heard what and how the LORD parted the water of the Red sea for the Isrealites when they came out of Egypt; and what Joshua did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom he utterly destroyed.

But, you will later see the different reactions of this harlot and the other citizens of Jericho. Suffice it to say now that God had given everyone on earth the opportunity to hear about His saving Grace, but He won't force any to submit to Him, *submission to God is a choice everyone will have to make.*

 *THE KING'S REACTION* Joshua 2:2-3.

The King of Jericho stands for this world and its system. God in His mercy sent His son to bring salvation to mankind. But just like the king of Jericho, people are busy trying to silent every preacher of sound doctrine with their laws, norms and culture.

 *The Harlot's Reaction*

I'm sure Rahab was not the only prostitute in Jericho at the time, but she was wise enough to :

a.) Accommodate God's servant. Joshua 2:1b.

She opened her house to God's messenger. *Today, Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart, open to Him that you may dine together with Him.* Rev. 3:20, Heb. 4:7.

b.) Hide God's people. Joshua 2:4. While others were seeking to kill them, she was wise enough to hide them in her house. Psa 119:11 says 'Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.' This is an intentional thing. *If you didn't intentionally hide His word in your heart, you will intentionally or unintentionally sin against Him.*

*What are you doing with the word of God you have heard? Are you killing it or keeping it?*
