Text : Mar 14:3 ISV
*While Jesus was in Bethany sitting at the table in the home of Simon the leper, a woman arrived with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume on his head.*
The story of the woman with the Alabaster jar is such a popular one and it will continue to be so because it was backed up with such prophecy by Jesus Christ Himself.
He said : Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. Math 26:13.
Hence, today, we are fulfilling scriptures by not just looking at the story of this woman, but by also gleaning some lessons from her :
1. *She was a notorious sinner.*
There was a woman who was a notorious sinner in that city. When she learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s home, she took an alabaster jar of perfume Luke 7:37 ISV.
One spectacular thing about this woman is that she did not hide her identity. She was a sinner, everybody knows her to be one(a popular one at that), and she herself knew she was a sinner too. A problem known they say is half solved.
*Helping a man who has identity crisis is a double dose of complications. It becomes much easier when he knows and acknowledges who he is. Do you know Who you are?*
This woman knew she was a sinner, and she probably must have been looking for a way to be free from her burden of sin. So when she saw the light, she wasted no time in jumping at it.
*It is not so much about your load of sin, but your willingness to be free from it? Your Willingness is the key.*
If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: Isa 1:19.
2. *She learnt about Jesus.* As soon as this woman got wind of Jesus' presence, she responded by going to Him, Luke 7:37. She did not wait to be invited or to be cajoled.
*How many times have you heard about Jesus and His knock on your heart? Have you been responding?*
How many times have you been invited to come to the feet of Jesus? How has your response been?
He said He will never turn away any who comes to Him. 'Everything the Father gives me will come to me, and I’ll never turn away the one who comes to me.' Joh 6:37 ISV.
3. *She went with her Alabaster jar.* This jar is probably the summation of all her life's worth (going by the cost of the perfume - very expensive). She didn't go to Jesus with her body only she went with everything she had and everything she stood for.
She didn't just go to Jesus with her burden of sin alone, she went with her trophy too. She went with her livelihood, she went with everything she had, with her most valued possession.
*Come to Jesus with all of your burdens, but come with all of your trophies too. All must be laid at His feet.*
*PRAYER FOCUS*
1. I refuse to hide my true identity before my Lord, I receive the Grace to come just as I am and to lay all of my life at His feet.
