REST


Text : Hebrew 4:9

 *So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.* 

Jesus made an open invitation to all that labour and are heavy laden. He promised all that would come to Him a REST.  Mathew 11:28

Until the advent of Jesus, man could not enter into the rest of God. Man could not enter into her Sabbath Day.  Unlike the days old( under old testament), the  true import of Sabbath day in this new dispensation is no longer attached to one day of the week. Jesus, having declared on the cross, *"it is finished"* had opened the way of REST to as many that will honour his invitation and come to Him.

Jesus Himself has become the Lord of the Sabbath. He is indeed our Sabbath. At various times during his earthly ministry; Jesus demonstrated that he is  the Lord over Sabbath by healing people on the Sabbath day. He thereafter asked them to carry their bed.(John 5:1-11).

 He and his disciples went through the corn harvest and pluck the ears of corn to eat.( Mathew 12:1-3). All these are contrary to the law of Sabbath. In fact God once commanded that a man should be killed just because he was picking sticks on the Sabbath day.(Num. 15:32-35).

Sabbath was to be observed as a day of REST before the Lord Jesus arrived. Now that He had come, Sabbath is now a REST to enter into.

 _For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.Matthew 12:8_ 

 *You can  experience the rest JESUS promised in reality if only you can truly BELIEVE in Him .*

To come into  REST is to cease from your labour and heavy burden. It is to rest from manifestations of the works of the flesh. It is to believe and come into the finished work of the cross. REST is your deliverance from unbelief. It is your freedom from all forms of struggles, elements of this world and  traditions of men. 

Rest is your total deliverance from Sin. Because, *Sin is a work that pays her wages in death currency.* 

Rest is your realisation of eternal life (God's kind of life) in the days of your flesh on earth. It is a transition from the soulish life(psuche) to God's life (Zoe).

 _Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord_ .

You can enter into His rest today if only  you  BELIEVE in the finished work of  Christ on the cross.

 *PRAYER FOCUS* 

Lord I receive grace to enter into the REST promised.

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil.
