AUTHORITY & SUBMISSION 2

Text : Hebrew 13:17

*_Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit_* .

We saw yesterday how King Saul(the supposed spiritual leader over Israel) misled God's inheritance because of his ignorance. He made the wrong choice by asking the people to embark on fasting when God has not declared it. He even laid a curse on anyone who disobeyed such order by eating.(1Sam14:24).

Being a spiritual leader calls for *accountability* in the following ways:

*1. Serve(ing):* Number one role of every spiritual leader is to serve the followers. Serve them by feeding and nurturing them with God's word. This service also includes adding value to their lives holistically. What makes you a leader over another is service.

At any given capacity you are leading people of God, you must be deliberate about serving them with the appropriate meal. Don't delegate this duty. *And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, __to give them their portion of meat in due season_*_ ? Luke 12:42

*2.Discern(ing)* : God expects spiritual leaders to be very discerning and sensitive about the state of his or her followers. Hence, a spiritual leader must take responsibility for whatever happens under his watch. Eli, the prophet, at his old age could still discern that it was God speaking to Samuel. The young boy would have missed out on God's call upon his life if not for Eli's discerning ability. (1Samuel 3:2-10).

Proverb 27:23 says _Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds. To achieve this as a leader, you must be very discerning and sensitive_ .

*3. Lead(ing):* You lead by simply taking a walk ahead of others. You lead by Chartting a course for your followers. The authority God has given you is to *LEAD and not to COERCE, THREATHEN or put your followers under DURESS* .

You lead by showing examples for others to follow, not only by preaching or teaching.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you._

Philippians 4:9

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1. Pray that your leader(s) will find help to lead you as they ought to.

2. Pray for yourself as a leader that God will help you to Serve, discern and lead effectively as God wills from now on.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

WAY MAKER-2

Text: Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness,  and rivers in the desert. God promised that He will do a new thing for you, and that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. He has done this before, and He will do it again even in your own life.  When the children of Israel left Egypt, the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them, encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.(Exodus 14:9). Just like anyone would react, the Isrealites became so fearful because there is neither way forward nor back for them to escape. Before them was the red sea, behind them were the Egyptian armies. They became perplexed and began to murmur against Moses. It is possible you are also in a situation like the Israelites- No way forward, and no way behind. Things may appear like you are ...

BEWARE OF DOGS

Text :  Philippians 3:2. Beware of the dogs! Beware of the evil workers! Beware of the mutilators! Usually, when you see the inscription "BEWARE OF DOGS", you instantly know there's a wild or trained dog around the corner, hence, the need to beware.  However, when God says 'Beware of dogs,' He wasn't actually referring to dogs as in 'animals' but to animals in human skin. Note that this caution was given to believers against other so-called  believers.  That is, some people within the church that we refer to as brothers and sisters are actually operating in the capacity of dogs.Though fellow worshippers in the church are called brothers and sisters, but if they behave like wild animals, know that they are dogs in humans skin- BEWARE. Matthew  7:6 says *Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.*  Essentially, dogs don't have capacity to r...
