NEEDLESS SACRIFICE

Text : 1 SAMUEL 22:15

 _"....“Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams"_ 

There are so many things we do and pray for that need not be prayed for. You must know that all your spiritual activities: prayer, fasting and studying the word are basically to enable you do one thing- *OBEDIENCE.* Engaging in a fervent spiritual exercises without walking in Obedience simply amounts to a futile effort. 

Samuel said to King Saul, " *to obey is better than offerings and sacrifice* "

When you learn obedience to God's commands and instructions, so many prayer points will automatically be unnecessary from your Prayer requests.

 *Some of our Prayer requests are resultant effects of sheer disobedience* .

In order to live a stress free christian life, you must be able to differentiate between lthings that call for sacrifice and those that call for obedience.

God cannot be bribed with your sacrifices and offerings when obedience is what He demands. Samuel said that to obey is better than sacrifice and offerings because OBEDIENCE meets God's demand. It is simply a subjection to GOD'S demand and instruction. When you learn to start walking in instant obedience, you will not need to bribe God to get things from Him. 

For instance, Abraham did not pray to become Father of many Nations, rather he simply *believed and obeyed.* Same goes for Isaac. He reaped hundredfold the very year he sowed not because he sacrificed 2,000 bullocks but because he obeyed. 

 *God said to Isaac:* 

 _"Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you,......

*Isaac believed and obeyed* God by staying in the land. Then he 

 _sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him,__ Genesis 26 3 and 12. 

It is even worthy to note that the overall reason God blessed Isaac was because of Abraham's Obedience and not primarily because of Isaacs efforts.

This means that children reap from their parents obedience to God. 

 *The Blessing: proclaimed on Isaac* 

I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, Gen. 26:4

 *Reason:* 

because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

Genesis 26:5

King Saul would have maintained his lot as the King over Israel if he had simply obeyed the instruction given him. Samuel 15:3. 

I realised that human beings often prefer hard things rather than the simple ones. They prefer to pay huge amount for something that should be given for free. 

Jesus was given to the world to bring salvation, yet many still wouldn't accept Him. They wonder, is it that simple? The devil has impaired man to believe that Precious and valuable things come through much efforts. No! they come through GRACE(Free Gift of God). You will enjoy all of God through Obedience. So what you need is Grace for obedience. 

Saul disobeyed the Lord and lost his throne which cannot be bought back with many offerings and sacrifices. 

 *You must be careful to DO obedience in order to avoid NEEDLESS sacrifice* .

 *PRAYER FOCUS* 

1. Ask God to give you Grace to always obey Him promptly.

PRAYING MEN

Text : 1Timothy 2:8. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. God gave explicit instructions to all of His children as to how we must live our lives. Some of these instructions cut across boards, of which all of God's children must obey. However, there are some instructions that are specific to gender or portfolios. We we'll be looking at some of these instructions today.  *THE MEN* From our text, there are two distinct responsibilities God wants men to undertake, and the two are intertwined. First, God wants men to pray. The word  'men' as used in our text is not generic as to mean all human beings. It is specifically requesting that all men should pray. Yes, God expects every of His children to pray, but He specifically called men out here.  A number of times,  when prayer meetings are called, the proportion of women in attendance always outnumbered men. This is because the devil knows the import of praying men.

Text: 1 Kings 19:12 "...and after the earthquake a fire, [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice" Prophet Elijah fled after he received the life threatening message from Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab, because he didn't keep himself calm before the Lord.  *Endeavouring to listen to God in difficult times is a major prerequisite to your deliverance.*  Are you faced with a life threatening situation like Prophet Elijah, the first and most important thing you need to do is: "Set yourself before the Lord for His still small voice."  *"You will be saved from many unwarranted troubles if only you will always maintain your calm before the Lord and listen to Him."*  After Prophet Elijah heard the still small voice, then the Lord asked him, "What are you doing here?"
