SPIRITUAL PARENTING 2

Text : Gen 18:19

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Today,  we will focus a little on the roles of the parents, while we shall be looking at the roles of the children later.

Just as in physical, biological children, the role of the parents begins from conception all through to the spiritual maturity stage.

The apostle Paul talks about travail: My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you (Gal. 4:19). Paul had already labored and travailed for their spiritual birth and once again he is in labor until Christ is formed in them.

Your first responsibility as a spiritual parent is Prayer. When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, it's evident that his heart attitude was profoundly prayerful. He said, For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 3:14). He was continually in that place of birthing. He knew that realm and he knew how to touch the heart of God and how to bring forth and birth what God desired. We need this attitude, too!

Prayer is not just the first responsibility of a parent towards his child, it's a lifetime responsibility. Paul (after the Ephesians' church had been birth) said " I do not cease to pray for you." Eph.1:16. Don't ever cease to travail over the souls God had given to you until Christ is formed in them. Until we all become just like Jesus.

" Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:"Eph 4:13.

Every newborn needs milk to grow. Like newborn babies, thirst for the pure milk of the word so that by it you may grow in your salvation.1Pe 2:2.

It is your responsibility as a parent to feed the newbies with the undiluted word of God. That's the only way to guarantee growth.

Note that your duties must be carried out in love, otherwise, you will be pissed off before any success is recorded. Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” Peter told him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus told him, “Feed my lambs.”John 21:15.

Before the responsibility of feeding the lambs of Jesus could be committed to Peter,  Jesus needed to be sure of the love of Peter. *You owe your  Spiritual Children love.*
