THE SPIRIT

Text : 1 CORINTHIAN 2:12

Now, we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we can understand the things that were freely given to us by God.

It is obvious from the passage that there are two kinds of spirit man can receive :

1. The spirit of the world 

2. The spirit of God.

For as many that have received Christ,  they have received the spirit of God into them.

"To all who received him, those who believe in his name, he gave authority to become God’s children" John 1:12.

However,  the essence of the Spirit of God that you have received, is so you might understand the things that are freely given to you by God. 1.Cor.2:12b.

God the father always seek to give things to his children. 2Timothy 1:7 says God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline. That is, one of the things that God has given us is the Spirit of power, love and self-discipline. 

But to fully harness the things that God has freely given us, we need His spirit in us. The things of GOD can only be revealed by His Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything,  even the deep things of God. 1 Cor. 2:10. 

Before Jesus Christ could launch fully into His ministry,  the Spirit of God descended on Him,Matt.3:16, When Jesus had been baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Suddenly, the heavens opened up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.

It is the Spirit of God that can give you insight into the deep things of God. 

If the spirit of God dwells in you,  then you will have victory over the flesh. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.Romans 8:9.

Now,  you must note that the spirit of God and the spirit of the world cannot  cohabit, it's either of the two. Friendship with one is an automatic enmity with the other. 

You adulterers! Don’t you know that friendship with the world means hostility with God? So whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God.Jas 4:4 ISV

On whose side are you? 

 If you think it’s the wrong thing for you to serve the LORD, then *choose for yourselves today whom you will serve* —the gods whom your ancestors served on the other side of the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose territories you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”Joshua 24:15 ISV

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil.
