EAT AND DIE

Text: 1 King's 17:8-12

But she said,  "As the Lord your God lives, I don't have  anything baked only a handful of flour in the  jar and a bit of oil in the jug. Just now,  I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat and die."

Everything you have right now is "eat and die". By everything I mean everything, including your certificate, your qualifications, your strength, your job, your career, your business and just anything and everything.

The only thing that transcends the life of 'eat and die' are those things placed in the hands of God.

That widow of  Zarephath from our text, knew that all she had was a "eat and die"* portion,  yet she didn't know how to wriggle out of the situation. In the same vein,  people know that all their efforts, labour,  achievements and otherwise couldn't sustain them beyond this earth,  yet they lack the Will Power to seek for something higher.

It's such a life of *futility* and *vanity* to live for what will only sustain you for less than 120years when you can afford to live for ever and ever in bliss and glory.

God gave that nameless widow, grace to submit the portion in her hands to the prophet(a God figure). And this made her to live in abundance through out the famine of the time. If she had withheld what she had then,  she and her son would have died of famine.

WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ON TO SO TIGHTLY?

ARE YOU REALLY READY TO LET GO OF THE "EAT AND DIE" PORTION IN YOUR HANDS?

What shall it profit a man  if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  Matthew 16:26. This still remains a big question begging for ANSWER. And the truth is; no single man can gain the whole world. Even if you managed to get the whole world,  it's nothing compare to the worth of your soul.

When you let go of your life as it were to God,  you will not only gain it back but with it,  you will gain eternal life. Matthew 19:29.

This life of "eat and die," is simply a rat-race.  No one wins in a rat-race. It all ends in VANITY. To get out of the rat-race however,  you must do the following :

1. Understand that all of life's pursuit is a "eat and die" program.  Ecclesiastes 1:14. 1 kings 17:12.

2. Surrender totally to God by obeying His words.1 John 2:15-17. John 3:16.

3. Put God first in all you do, regardless of how pleasant or challenging the situation is. 1 Kings 17:13-14. Matthew 6:33.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
